Typography

The typography in this horror film is very jagged and has different thicknesses for different letters. The shadows make the righting look quite mysterious and ominous and remind you of ghosts, which could give you a clue to what the film is about.

The text is quite intriguing as horror films are normally very dark and this font looks like it is made out of light. The £ symbol makes the audience think that there will be a recurring theme of symbols and this is heightened as the light is the brightest from this letter. The light almost makes it look like it is ripping through the skin of the person which is very disturbing. It is also broken up by a little bit of darkness to make it look not perfect and blend in with the skin very well.
This writing has more varying of thickness and is very bold as it is white against a dark background.  The red writing contrasts with the black background, this also implies that it is a slasher film as the red represents blood. It is still connected with the main title as it gets whiter towards the middle of the text. The text also looks quite 3D as it is on a knife.

Silent hill and the forgotten are completely different as you can see that the genre is echoed in the typography. The skeleton is different as it uses symbols as well as text and goes against the audience’s original ideas of a horror film and how the typography should be.

After this I wanted to create my own title for a film and found a great Photoshop tutorial showing me how to do this.

First I created a new document with the specified size and resolution of the tutorial on the Youtube video.
I added in this image of a wall from the internet and created a new layer.

I then adjusted my fibers to a amount that I liked.

I then changed the input and output levels of the colour so it would not be too dark.
Then I selected the lines and deleted this layer as it was on the concrete wall on it's own.

I then chose a dark red colour to fill in the lines with to represent blood.

I then deselected the render and changed the saturation and hue so that it would not be as vibrant and look more realistic.

I then burned the colour onto the image.

I then downloaded a font from www.dafont.com and used it as my font which i would manipulate. I did not use these words for any particular reason only to experiment.

I then selected one or two particular letters to move them up or down.
I then used the pen tool to draw around my letters.
I then burnt the colour onto the image so that the background colours would still show up.

I then changed the hue and saturation as i didn't want it to be as vibrant.

I then seperated the low hue saturation from all the layers and used on just the blood like streaks.
I made a path of darkness on the outside of where I had used the pen tool.

i then changed the level of darkness/light that was around the edges of the image.
This is the final image that I made.

I found this task quite difficult even though I had the video to help me, things still want wrong. For example the ghosting of the text was an accident and I'm not sure how I did it, but I think that it actually gives depth to the image.
